Code of Conduct

Being a member of the Las Vegas Thunderbirds isn’t just about playing hockey – it’s a privilege that comes with the responsibility to uphold the values, standards, and reputation of our team both on and off the ice. Our Code of Conduct is a fundamental part of being a Thunderbird, setting the standards for behavior and guiding the actions of our players, coaching staff, and everyone associated with our team.

This Code of Conduct is about more than just rules; it’s an embodiment of our team’s ethos and our commitment to promoting a culture of respect, inclusivity, and excellence. Adhering to this code ensures that every member of the Thunderbirds family, from players to coaches to staff, contributes to a positive, supportive, and high-performing environment that is essential to our success.

By being a Thunderbird, you are committing to uphold these principles and to lead by example, both in the arena and in the broader community. Remember, when you wear the Thunderbirds’ crest, you represent not just yourself, but your teammates, your coaches, and the rich history and spirit of the Thunderbirds.

And together, we uphold this Code of Conduct, ensuring a legacy of pride and excellence for future generations of Thunderbirds.

Respect and Sportsmanship

  1. Treat teammates, coaches, officials, opponents, and spectators with respect, regardless of race, religion, sex, age, ethnicity, nationality, sexual orientation, or gender identity
  2. Refrain from engaging in any form of hate speech, including but not limited to homophobic, racial, or derogatory remarks
  3. Use appropriate, respectful, and inclusive language at all times. This includes using correct names, pronouns, and avoiding racial, ethnic slurs, or any other derogatory or offensive language

Inclusivity and Diversity

  1. Embrace and promote diversity
  2. Foster a supportive environment where everyone feels included and valued
  3. Report incidents of discrimination, bullying, or harassment to the coaches or designated team authority
  4. Do not engage in any form of discrimination or harassment. This includes but is not limited to actions based on an individual’s actual or perceived sexual orientation, gender identity or expression

Billet Relationships

  1. Show gratitude and respect towards billet families who provide a home for players
  2. Adhere to the household rules and expectations set by families
  3. Communicate openly with billet families, informing them of any schedule changes or personal issues that may affect living arrangements
  4. Report any issues that arise in the billet home to the staff

Representing the Team

  1. Recognize that wearing anything with the team crest/logo directly represents the team, and act responsibly
  2. Act as ambassadors for the team both on and off the ice, promoting positive values and behavior
  3. Avoid activities that could result in negative publicity or damage the team’s reputation

Social Media and Online Conduct

  1. Be mindful of your online presence and its impact, remembering that your actions reflect on the team
  2. Avoid posting or sharing offensive, discriminatory, or inappropriate content on social media
  3. Use social media responsibly, respecting the privacy and feelings of others, including teammates, coaches, and opponents

Personal Conduct

  1. Follow all team rules, regulations, and policies, both during team activities and in personal life
  2. Avoid behavior that could harm the team’s reputation or hinder your personal development
  3. Refrain from using illegal substances or abusing legal ones, including alcohol and prescription medication
  4. Manage disagreements in a mature and respectful manner, seeking the help of a mediator if necessary
  5. Abide by all local, state, and national laws
  6. Use appropriate and inclusive language at all times
  7. Respect the privacy of others, particularly those who choose to disclose their sexual orientation, gender identity, or gender expression

USPHL Code of Conduct

  1. No swearing or abusive language on the bench, in the rink, or at any team function
  2. No lashing out at any official no matter what the call is. The coaching staff will
  3. handle all matters pertaining to officiating
  4. Anyone who receives a penalty will skate directly to the penalty box.
  5. Fighting will not be tolerated
  6. There will be no drinking, smoking, chewing of tobacco, or use of illegal substances at any team function
  7. Conduct yourself in a befitting manner at all facilities (ice rink, hotel, restaurant, etc.) during any team function
  8. Players or team officials who cannot abide by these rules or who violates them will be subject to further disciplinary action

Reporting Violations

  1. Take incidents of hate speech, discrimination, bullying, or harassment seriously
  2. Report any violations of this code of conduct to the team’s designated authority, such as the team captain and the coaches
